Making versus Knowing

I'm at a place where I will be doing less making in an effort to do more knowing. This is a part of the seasonal cycle I go through around the darkest time of the year. Just an FYI that my posts have become and will say a big sparse through this time. I'm working on knowing right now, inward directed, and not creatively generative. This usually ends at the end of the year, when I shift outward again.

  1. hmm.. I generally have to make the thing, before i can understand or know about what i have done and why.. its a thing. and over the last few years i have been learning more about the structure? the knowing of my practice where as before i generally just did things with out always knowing why or how it worked... mmm.. *curious*..

PS really like your latest painting, the one in blue.. am quite attracted to that one.. *ponders this*.. maybe its cause it is balanced... *ponders this* and blue.. i like blue!

so much pondering to do... *grins*

  2. I think each person has their own rhythms and figuring them out and working with them (instead of fighting against them) is really useful.

For me, this is the time of year for looking forward and backward (Janus). I review my private journals and readings from the past year and do readings for the year ahead. I hunt down 2012 "year ahead" horoscopes from my favorite astrologers and compare them to what actually happened while reviewing their 2013 year ahead predictions as well. I make resolutions and also judge whether the changes I wanted to make from last year actually happened. I often find myself readjusting my thinking on issues and topics. I crave reinvention on a number of levels from the deepest to the most shallow.

This all ties neatly with the winter solstice energy and the hearth and home focus that our Yule holiday celebrations have.

So for me it's not a time for making art or magic, at least until after the darkest night passes.
